As stated by TV Guide Magazine yesterday, actresses Melinda Clarke, Susan Walters and Marguerite MacIntyre have all starred at least once on the NBC’s sitcom Seinfeld and now are on the CW’s Vampires Diaries, yet in the same episode. The website also has spoilers on the upcoming episode “A Few Good Men” (mouseover to read).
When The O.C. vet Melinda Clarke joins The Vampire Diaries on March 25 as Matt’s MIA mama, Kelly, there will be a total of three MILFs in Mystic Falls who have formerly appeared as Jerry’s girlfriends on Seinfeld. Melinda played Alex, who preferred Jerry smooth-chested, on the NBC sitcom. Susan Walters, Tyler’s mom, Mrs. Lockwood, on VD, was Jerry’s infamous Dolores (aka Mulva). And Marguerite MacIntyre, who hunts vamps as Caroline’s mommy, Sheriff Forbes, played Jerry’s Miss America contestant date, Karen.
“I had no idea!,” says Diaries exec producer Kevin Williamson upon learning of the Seinfeld connection. “It wasn’t by design, but I wonder if there is some unconscious link. I was a Seinfeld freak.” So much so, he threw in a line at the start of the season that the sitcom was Stefan’s favorite. “It’s the greatest modern-day American comedy of all time.”
All three of Jerry’s exes pop up in Melinda’s first episode, titled “A Few Good Men,” in which Sheriff Forbes asks Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to participate in a bachelor auction officiated by Mrs. Lockwood. Beyond that, executive producer Julie Plec says that Matt’s mess of a mom will interfere in his relationship with Caroline, while Caroline’s mother will reveal to Damon why Alaric Saltzman really came to town. As for Tyler’s cougar mom, she’ll cope with her husband’s infidelity by trying to sink her claws into Damon.
